Engage Young Volunteers in the National Junior Firefighter Program and Academy

If members of your Fire Corps program are under 18, they can register with the National Junior Firefighter Program. Youth programs can belong to both Fire Corps and the National Junior Firefighter Program. As a registered junior firefighter program, your Fire Corps team can access additional tools and resources to help you start, market, maintain, and expand a program involving youth volunteers as well as assist in your efforts to support your department and community.

Junior members and advisors can also register to attend the National Junior Firefighter Academy. For the second year, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) will host this training opportunity for junior firefighters and program advisors at Firehouse Expo in Baltimore, MD. The National Junior Firefighter Academy, sponsored by Firehouse Expo, Spartan Motors, Inc., and California Casualty, will be held from 9am-12pm on Saturday, July 23.

Junior firefighters, junior firefighter program advisors, and other department leadership are encouraged to attend the National Junior Firefighter Academy. Register at http://firehouseexpo.com/events_nvfc.html. Seating is limited, so be sure to register early to guarantee your spot.

The session for junior firefighters will focus on youth leadership, future paths in the fire service, and youth-led activity ideas. The course for junior firefighter program advisors will feature topics such as serving as a youth mentor, securing funding, and program activity ideas. All participants will receive a certificate of completion and a t-shirt. Stay tuned for more information at www.nvfc.org/juniors.
